Recycling iron waste and tin cans
How is metal waste recycling done?
All types of metal can be recycled and you can make a significant profit by selling them. Copper is very profitable because it is highly malleable and conducts electricity. Copper can also be recycled over and over again, making it an environmentally friendly recyclable metal option.
Some other examples of common recycled metal scrap include:
- Structural steel
- tin can
- Smooth metal sheet
- aluminium
- Rice
- stainless steel
- Insulated wire
- tungsten carbide
The most common metals are non-ferrous, meaning they are not magnetic. These metals are usually found in houses and construction workshops. If you find that you have leftover metal at the end of the project, you can prepare it for recycling.

Income from metal waste recycling
When you prepare your waste for recycling, it is sorted, weighed and priced based on its usability and quality. At your workplace, you can even schedule a scrap metal service so that you can collect all your scrap metal and easily sort it for recycling.
Scrap metal dealers must report income from the sale of metal for recycling purposes on their annual tax return.
There are currently no tax incentives associated with reporting income from metal sales. You are technically taxed on scrap metal as part of your personal income tax.
